An origin story like no other
I’m Meghan Laslocky, the founder of Boondocker, a business that originated with an encounter with a toad.
In June of 2025, just after one in a string of very frustrating conversations with a company I was a marketing consultant for, I nearly stepped on a toad…on my bedroom floor.
I’m not one to think the universe takes time to tell me anything, but this was a sign I couldn’t ignore: A quick Google search revealed that toads are symbolism of transformation and renewal, as well as intuition, resilience, hidden beauty, and luck and prosperity.
Several days later, I decided the toad was worth heeding. Determined to quit building companies and brands that bored me, I quit my job.
Two days after my last day, the vision for Boondocker came to me. Ever since, I’ve been obsessed with how technology could solve one of the most pressing problems for people who live in rural areas: finding fun things to do, quickly and easily, without having to wade through scattered event listings, community calendars, and social posts.
Without me knowing it, my entire career in tech marketing has been barreling toward Boondocker, complete with deep experience in brand building, mobile ad tech, analytics, and custom software development.
